"CARE IS
BIOGRAPHY
Dr Ashwin Chee brings a wealth of experience as a psychiatrist and medical doctor, dedicating over 20 compassionate years to the field of psychological medicine. His journey began with a medical degree from the National University of Ireland, followed by specialist training in Singapore, where he earned a Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) from the National University of Singapore.
Known for his kind and gentle approach, Dr Chee has become a respected figure in the field. His professional history includes significant roles in various large general hospitals in Singapore, such as the National University Hospital, Institute of Mental Health, and Singapore General Hospital. Notably, he played a crucial role in establishing the psychiatry department at Sengkang General Hospital.
As the Chairman for Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings at Sengkang Hospital, Dr Chee not only oversaw clinical care but also fostered collaboration among psychiatrists, psychologists, medical social workers, and nurses. He chaired training programs within the department and served as a mentor to junior specialists, embodying a commitment to nurturing the next generation of mental health professionals.
Dr Chee’s contributions extended to the LINK Program, where he served as the Psychiatry Lead for the mental wellness component. In this role, he facilitated the joint management of patients by specialists in the hospital and family doctors in the expansive North-East region of Singapore, ensuring a smooth transition for individuals with mental health conditions.
Driven by a passion for education, Dr Chee assumed the role of clinical tutor for medical students at both the National University of Singapore and Duke-NUS Medical School. His dedication to teaching reflects his deep commitment to advancing the understanding of mental health within the medical community.
With a heartfelt focus on First-Episode Psychosis, Dr Chee dedicated substantial efforts to Singapore’s Early Psychosis Intervention Program (EPIP), providing valuable support to young individuals grappling with this condition. His expertise also extends to depression and anxiety, where he contributed as a compassionate member of the clinical team in the Mood and Anxiety Clinic at Sengkang Hospital.
Recognised for his caring demeanor, Dr Chee was nominated for the Service with a Heart Award (Gold) in 2022 by Singapore Health Services. His enduring mission is to guide individuals through their recovery journey, always considering their preferences and recommending evidence-based treatments tailored to their unique needs.
