BIOGRAPHY
Dr James Moon is a Principal Therapist and Medical Doctor with extensive experience in psychiatry and mental health. Trained in medicine at the University College Dublin, he has served as a doctor in Singapore’s major public institutions, including Sengkang General Hospital and the Institute of Mental Health.
At Sengkang General Hospital, Dr Moon provided outpatient care focused on mood and anxiety disorders, as well as consultation-liaison services for inpatients. He was also appointed Clinical Teacher with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, mentoring medical students in psychiatry. His service was recognised with multiple awards, including the Gold Award at the Singapore Health Quality Service Awards and the Gold Award in clinical service and patient experience at Sengkang General Hospital, as well as the COVID-19 Resilience Medal from the Ministry of Health.
Previously, during his years at the Institute of Mental Health, Dr Moon worked across general and community services, forensic and addiction care, and adult neurodevelopmental clinics. He also supported emergency services, caring for individuals in moments of crisis, and developed a special interest in sleep and stress-related conditions.
Dr Moon brings a grounded and compassionate presence to his work. With his dual role as GP (Mental Health) and therapist, he integrates medical expertise with evidence-based therapies, offering tailored care that may include sensitive medication management when needed. He understands that people need safety, growth, and connection, and that our wellbeing is shaped by biology, relationships, and past experiences—yet we still long for balance and purpose. This perspective guides his practice, where science and compassion meet to foster healing and renewal.
Raised in Canada and of Korean heritage, Dr Moon draws on both his cross-cultural background and his role as a father of two daughters to connect with clients with sensitivity, respect, and warmth.
Academically, Dr Moon earned his medical degree from the University College Dublin, along with a Bachelor of Health Sciences from McMaster University and a Master of Health Sciences from the University of Toronto. His research has focused on insomnia, neurodevelopmental disorders, and service delivery in psychiatry, with publications in Asia-Pacific Psychiatry and other international journals and conferences.
Beyond clinical work, he has contributed to community and humanitarian projects, including trauma recovery workshops with HAGAR Singapore and global health research with St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
