BIOGRAPHY
Dr Lee Xin Er is known for her kind, gentle, and empathetic approach among both patients and peers. With over 12 years of working experience, she is dedicated to providing personalized care in a safe and inclusive environment, deeply valuing each patient’s unique story and striving to build a trusting relationship that empowers them to achieve their mental health goals.
Dr Lee served as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, following her residency training at various large public hospitals, including Singapore General Hospital and National University of Singapore. She earned her postgraduate qualification from the prestigious Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom.
During her time at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, she had the opportunity to lead the psychiatry ward and worked closely with her team of doctors, psychologists, and social workers to care for patients admitted with conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and dementia. Additionally, she was part of the Staff Support team which provided mental health care to doctors and nurses. Dr Lee combines evidence-based practice with a holistic approach, recognizing the interplay of physical, emotional, and social factors in one’s well-being.
Dr Lee’s clinical expertise spans depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, dementia, schizophrenia, and sleep disorders, with a particular focus on women’s mental health. As a working mother of two teenage children, she understands the challenges faced by modern women in balancing career, family, and personal well-being. She is especially passionate about supporting women through various life stages, including pregnancy and postpartum challenges such as postpartum depression and anxiety.
In her role on the Palliative Care team at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Dr Lee provided psychiatric care for patients with cancer and other terminal illnesses, as well as support to hospice care patients. In this role, she helped people face and overcome grief and bereavement. She was a member of the Advance Care Planning Committee and advocated for patient empowerment in end-of-life matters. She often integrates mindfulness to help grieving patients manage stress and stay grounded in the present.
Teaching the next generation of healthcare professionals is another one of Dr Lee’s passions. She served as a Clinical Lecturer at the Medical Schools of both the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. Additionally, she was a Clinical Teacher for the Holistic Palliative Care Programme (HoPE) at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and was part of the teaching faculty for the Workplace Mental Health Workshop organized by National Healthcare Group College.
Devoted to creating a safe and nurturing environment, Dr Lee ensures her patients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions. She works closely with them to ensure they are active participants in their treatment plans and values their input in every decision.
